Hahn Stainless Steel Cookware
Care & Use Guide
Hahn stainless steel cookware is made from 18/10 stainless steel which has an extremely high resistance to corrosion and is extremely easy to clean. The super-mirror finish is the brightest polish available.
Hahn cookware is manufactured to a greater thickness than most manufacturers use, giving added strength for an extended lifespan, and a satisfying, sturdy feel. Suitable for all heat sources, Hahn stainless steel cookware is dishwasher safe and oven safe to 240°C - allowing cooking to be started on the hob, and finished in the oven.
- Before using for the first time, wash thoroughly with hot water and detergent. In order to keep the best finish, Hahn stainless steel cookware should be towel dried, and not left to drip dry.
- When washing by hand we would recommend the use of a sponge, or nylon or other soft brush. Never use wire wool or other abrasive materials, as they can scratch the surface. A nylon (green) scouring pad can be used for the inside of pans, if there is any burnt-on food, but this should not be used on the outside of the pan.
- Hahn stainless steel cookware can be cleaned in a dishwasher (although for non-stick products hand washing is recommended).
- Cook on a low or medium heat. Stainless steel cookware retains heat very well. Excessive heat is unnecessary and can lead to discolouration of the pan (often seen as a brown or blue patina on the outside of the pan), or in extreme cases, warping of the base.
- Never heat an empty pan or allow the pan to boil dry. Always ensure there is water, oil or the food to be heated in the pan.
- Add salt to boiling water. Salt added to cold water can cause small corrosion spots in the base of the pan.
- After use, allow the pan to cool, and then add water and detergent to soak. If food is burnt on, reheat the pan with the soaking water to boiling point for a few minutes, and allow to cool again. After soaking, wash again by hand or in a dishwasher.
- Sometimes a white residue can form on the inside of the pan, or white spots on the base of the pan. This can be cleaned with vinegar (heating the vinegar has a stronger effect). Rinse thoroughly with water after cleaning with vinegar.
- Hahn stainless steel cookware can be polished from time to time using a stainless steel cleaning cream (e.g. Peek Polish).
- Hahn stainless steel cookware with stainless steel handles can be heated in an oven up to 240°C.
- Any metal handle can get hot during use (even tubular handles designed to stay cool). This is particularly the case for side loop handles, tubular handles on smaller saucepans, or handles exposed to direct heat from a gas hob or oven. To help reduce the transmission of heat along a saucepan handle when cooking on gas, the pan should be positioned slightly away from the centre of the gas ring, with the long handle furthest from the flame. The use of oven gloves or pot holders is recommended.
